by Sanna Kullin

Gothenburg, 2020. Anna is reading psychology in the same year as her boyfriend. Also on the course is Jack, a ten-years-older, mysterious family man. As the corona pandemic breaks out, new rules on social distancing are introduced, while, at the same time, Anna and Jack start to get closer to one another. She falls in love and confusion at the same, then seeks answers from her stiff and increasingly irritable therapist, Mats.

Göteborgssyndromet is a graphic novel about letting go of one’s entire life for the sake of a fantasy. With humour and wonderfully vivacious images stylistically indebted to the 1970s, Sanna Kullin debuts here with a sumptuous portrait of Gothenburg and, in it, a twentysomething woman wallowing in her own puzzlement.
